ADULT STUDENT OF THE YEAR AWARD Presented by West Virginia Adult Education Association, Inc. |
AWARD GUIDELINES Nominations are now being accepted by the Awards Committee of the WVAEA, Inc. for the annual presentation of the Adult Student of the Year Award. The award selection will be based upon the following guidelines: |
| ELIGIBILITY |
| 1. The nominee must be a student in a program such as ABE/Jobs, ABE, Adult Post Secondary, volunteer literacy program, and/or other similar programs. |
| 2. The nominee must be an adult student or self-directed learner within twelve months prior to the nomination date. |
| CRITERIA FOR SELECTION |
| Nominees shold demonstrate success in the following areas: |
1. Overcame difficult situations in order to participate in the adult education program. |
| 2. Improved life situation for themselves and/or others as a result of the learning experience. |
| 3. Demonstrated leadership within the non-traditional learning environment. |
| 4. Has been supportive of others involved in adult learning. |
| 5. Has maintained family, civic, or employment (if applicable) responsibilities at a high level while concurrently pursuing educational goals. |
| 6. Demonstrated creative means for meeting educational needs as an adult learner. |
| 7. Demonstrated a sense of responsibility through regular attendance, punctuality, and effective study habits. |
| PROCEDURES FOR NOMINATING CANDIDATES |
| Nominations to be considered must be submitted no later than September 1, 2008. |
| The Awards Committee will consider all nominations and make the final selection. |
| The Awards Committee reserves the right not to make an award if, in the judgement of the Committee, no worthy candidates are nominated. |
