Building Opportunities for Learning Together
 
What is BOLT?
BOLT is a student organization made up of current and former students of adult education and literacy programs and their supporters: persons presently or formerly employed in adult education; all volunteer literacy providers; members of organizations in fields related to adult education; undergraduate or graduate students with an interest in adult education and literacy programs. BOLT is affiliated with and complies with the rules of the West Virginia Adult Education Association, Inc. (WVAEA, Inc.), a non-profit organization.
 
Mission Statement
The mission of the WVAEA, Inc.-Student Affiliate is to expand the role of adult students as leaders who promote the success of adult education efforts throughout West Virginia. The WVAEA, Inc.-Student Affiliate is a resource for adult students to heighten public awareness, advocate for effective policies and practices, and promote the understanding that all who want to improve their skills can do so. Furthermore, the WVAEA, Inc.-Student Affiliate will unite all learners in literacy and adult education programs.
 
Objectives
  • Provides a unifed voice for students for a better chance of getting help pertaining to their needs in education and learning.
  • Provides adult education and literacy providers feedback on the services being provided and how these services might be improved.
  • Provides scholarship benefits.
  • Provides group or individual support, encouragement, and friendship to fellow students.
  • A place to practice leadership skills...to develop skills, discipline, and knowledge useful in the workplace.
  • Privdes an opportunity to be active participants and give back to adult education and liteacy programs in our community and state.
  • Creates public awareness of adult education and literacy programs by promoting and advocating for effective policies and practices.
  • Works to unify adult education and literacy students as life-long learners.
