WVAEA, Inc. Grants
ABE/Literacy Program Special Event Grant (Guidelines)
- Teacher/Tutor must be a current active member of WVAEA, Inc.
- Program must be a current Grantee of the WV Department of Education Office of Adult Education and Workforce Development or an affiliate of Literacy West Virginia.
- Program must agree to use the WVAEA, Inc. logo on promotional materials and diisplays for this event.
- Program must agree to submit an article to Networks regarding this event and its outcomes.
- The public outreach committee will review all applications and, if approved, the teacher/tutor will be sent a check up to the amount of $250. (Some grants may be less than that based upon the findings of the committee.)
- Grants may be used for county/state fairs, Open House, public speaking engagement, meet-the-teacher night, recognition/graduation ceremonies, etc.

- Teacher/Tutor must be a current active member of WVAEA, Inc.
- Program must be a current Grantee of the WV Department of Education Office of Adult Education and Workforce Development or an affiliate of Literacy West Virginia.
- Program must agree to place a label on textbooks, equipment, and all non-consumable materials/supplies that credits WVAEA, Inc. for providing these funds. (Labels will be provided.)
- The public outreach committee will review all applications and, if approved, the teacher/tutor will be sent a check up to the amount of $250. (Some grants may be less than that based upon the findings of the committee.)
ABE/Literacy Program Supplement Grant Application (Online)
ABE/Literacy Teacher/Tutor Professional Development Registration/Tuition Reimbursement Grant (Guidelines)
- Teacher/Tutor must be a current active member of WVAEA, Inc. (If you are not sure, check the membership list.) If you are not a current member, here's all you have to do:
a) Go to Membership Application.
b) Complete the online Application.
c) Pay online through PayPal or send your $20 check made payable to WVAEA, Inc. to: Ellen Killion, RESA 3, 501 22nd Street, Dunbar, WV 25064.
2. Teacher/Tutor must be employed by or volunteering with a program that is a current Grantee of the WV Department of Education Office of Adult Education and Workforce Development or an affiliate of Literacy West Virginia.
3. If the reimbursement is for attending a conference, attendee must agree to submit an article to Networks regarding this event and its outcomes.
4. Teacher/Tutor may not have received more than one reimbursement grant during the current fiscal/program year.
5. Teacher/Tutor must attach receipts for the registration or tuition costs.
ABE/Literacy Teacher/Tutor Professional Development Registration/Reimbursement Grant (Online)
ABE/Literacy Student Support Grant (Guidelines)
- Teacher/Tutor must be a current active member of WVAEA, Inc.
- Applicant must be a resident of West Virginia and currently enrolled in an ABE or literacy program within West Virginia.
- Applicant must maintain at least 85% attendance record.
- Applicant must truthfully complete the Student’s Support Grant Application.
- The completed application must be accompanied by a Teacher/Tutor’s Recommendation Letter.
- The Student Grant Committee will review the application form and the recommendation letter.
- If approved, the instructor/tutor will be sent a check up to the amount of $250. (Some grants may be less than that based upon the findings of the committee.)
- Monies will be disbursed to the student at the discretion of the instructor/tutor.
- Grants may be used for expenses such as travel to and from school, clothing, child-care, food, etc.

NOTE: Both the completed Student Support Grant Application and a Letter of Recommendation from a Teacher/Tutor must be received in order for this grant application to be accepted. The Letter of Recommendation along with instructions on where to submit it is included in the PDF and Word versions of the grant above.
Higher Education Student Support Grant (Guidelines)
- Teacher/Tutor must be a current active member of WVAEA, Inc..
- Applicant must be a resident of West Virginia and enrolled in a college, university, or vocational school for the current or upcoming semester.
- Applicant must be enrolled in or have completed an ABE/Literacy program in the past.
- Applicant must truthfully complete the Higher Education Student Support Grant Application.
- The completed application must be accompanied by a Teacher/Tutor’s Recommendation Letter.
- Applicant must submit a receipt of payment for tuition (on school letterhead) for the current or upcoming semester. (This is to verify that the student is enrolled.)
- After the student grant committee has reviewed and approved the application, the scholarship recipient will be sent a check up to the amount of $250. (Some grants may be less than that based upon committee findings.)
- Grants may be used for expenses such as travel to and from school, textbooks, clothing, child-care, food, etc.
